Question:
I had otoplasty surgery 3 weeks ago. I feel that the doctor pulled my ears back too far. It looks really unnatural. Is there a chance that they might relax a bit more and look normal? What are the options for having revision otoplasty to let the ears out again?
Answer:
I am sorry to hear that your ears are too far back. That is a frequent issue that can arise with otoplasty or ear reshaping surgery. Sometimes this is only in the midportin of the ear and sometimes it is the whole ear that is too far back, but in either case, this can usually be corrected by removing the sutures that are holding the ear back and replacing them with sutures that do not hold the ear back as far. As far as whether the ears will still relax at this point, now 3 years out: well, this can occur within the first year post-operatively. It is very unlikely to occur any more at 3 years out from surgery, as you are. A before and after picture of a patient who had an otoplasty, and we have several more pictures of other patients to review in our office. Either way, I wish you the best of luck and please let me know if I can be of any further help.
