Why using HBOTKey Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy After Facial Plastic Surgery

The potential benefits of HBOT include:

WHAT IS HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a non-invasive medical treatment in which the patient breathes high concentrations of oxygen in a pressurized hyperbaric chamber, increasing oxygen delivery to tissues and organs, including those healing from surgical procedures.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy also supports the body’s natural defense mechanisms, helps reduce tissue damage, and lowers the risk of post-operative infection.

The HBOT Procedure HOW IS HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY USED AT DONATH FACIAL PLASTIC SURGERY?

A LuxeLift℠ procedure includes three postoperative hyperbaric treatments. We usually start these treatments within a few days after surgery. The sessions align with the body’s healing phase; they help the body recover smoothly and quickly.

The chamber we use has a goal pressure of 1.5 atmospheres and is pressurized with room air, both of which lead to an overall better safety profile than hospital-based chambers.  Additionally, patients appreciate the ability to fully control the treatment from inside the chamber if needed, which is not possible with hospital-type chambers.

To help further improve the safety and comfort of the treatment, we have patients wear a plush robe without their outer garments (unless they are 100% cotton), to minimize static electricity.  Patients find these treatments are easy to undergo, and many notice an immediate improvement in their swelling.

Hyperbaric chamber after surgeryWhy HBOT Complements LuxeLift sm

LuxeLift℠ is a customized facial rejuvenation procedure that uses lifting techniques and fat transfer. This approach reduces trauma compared to traditional methods, but it still strains facial tissue while the face heals. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy supports this recovery phase by aligning with the precision and depth of LuxeLift℠. It is particularly suited to procedures that rely on tissue vitality, circulation, and a refined aesthetic finish.

Incorporating HBOT into the LuxeLift℠ protocol reflects the same commitment to detail, recovery, and outcome that defines every aspect of your experience at Donath Facial Plastic Surgery.

HBOT for Luxelift patientsWHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY?

Hyperbaric therapy is commonly used in promoting wound healing, such as with individuals who undergo surgery.

Prospective patients have a thorough medical assessment by a healthcare professional to confirm whether they are candidates for HBOT.  Only medical providers should recommend and direct HBOT to ensure the best possible outcomes and patient safety.

Before a HBOT appointment How to Prepare for an HBOT Session

For the best experience, follow these simple steps before your session:

  • Clothing: Wear 100% cotton or use our provided robe. Avoid synthetic fabrics.
  • Products: Do not apply lotions, oils, perfumes, makeup, or hair products.
  • Devices: Remove phones, hearing aids, and battery-powered items.
  • Food and Drink: Eat a light meal and stay hydrated. Avoid alcohol.

Most patients find the session relaxing and easy to tolerate.

WHAT IS THE HYPERBARIC TREATMENT LIKE?

The treatment itself is very well-tolerated by patients – they find it relaxing, and many feel it provides an immediate improvement in their healing.  Many patients watch movies or their favorite streaming media, take a nap, or listen to music during their treatment.  The treatment typically lasts one hour, but preparation and completion of the treatment take some time, and therefore, you may expect to be at the office for approximately 1 ½ hours.  Our staff will review the methods for optimizing comfort, such as neutralizing pressure in the ears/eardrums, much like simply flying in an airplane or snorkeling.

HBOT sessions are relaxing, often lasting an hour, and many patients report feeling immediate healing benefits.
