Instead of getting the combination of procedures, they want, and may get, their area of concern addressed with a simple incision beneath the chin. This tightens the platysma muscles down to the neck breakpoint, or “cervicomental angle,” with or without conservative liposuction of the neck area. This can also be combined with liposuction of the lower jowl area in order to yield a very nice result.
However, sometimes the elasticity or snapback of the skin of the neck is not sufficient to yield an optimal result, and this is not always easily determined preoperatively. We therefore frequently recommend a mini-lift or more formal lift of the face in order to move that excess skin upward to create a more defined neck and jaw line. In some cases, we can also remove excess skin through the incision just beneath the chin. But there are limitations as to how much can be removed without extending the incision along the jaw line to where it may be visible in certain head positions; this is why the preferable procedure for excess skin of the neck is a mini-lift or facelift.
