 Revision rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure which can repair problems which have occurred from a prior rhinoplasty surgery. The surgery can improve both aesthetic and functional problems. Individuals who are unhappy with the results of a previous rhinoplasty procedure and are looking for improvement may be good candidates for revision rhinoplasty. As with all surgery, patients should also have realistic expectations and be in good health. During your consultation, Dr. Donath will examine your nose to evaluate what you can expect from your surgery.
Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used for the revision rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. Donath will begin by making incisions. Some of the incisions may be located on the inside of the nostrils while it may also be necessary to make a small incision on the skin between the nostrils. Working through these incisions, the desired shape may be achieved by repositioning cartilage and replacing missing structures. The surgery typically takes two or more hours to complete. Recovery after revision rhinoplasty is usually less extensive than after primary rhinoplasty procedures. There is generally less bruising, swelling and pain. Bruising should fade within about ten days though it may take several months for the swelling to fade. Splints and stitches may be removed in about one week, at which time most patients can return to work and other normal activities.
