The term mini facelift refers to less invasive facelift techniques which can improve the appearance of the lower face and jowls. The mini facelift can often be customized to address the patient's specific problem areas. Incisions are typically fewer and less extensive, surgery and recovery times are generally shorter, and bruising and swelling are decreased.
Individuals who are looking to improve laxity in the neck, jowls and jaw line without the downtime associated with a full facelift may be good candidates for a mini facelift. As with all types of surgery, patients must be physically healthy and realistic in their expectations. It's important that patients understand the limitations of the mini facelift as it cannot provide the same dramatic results of a full facelift. Mini facelifts are often ideal for younger patients who have less extensive sagging of the lower face and neck and do not yet need to undergo a full facelift. During your consultation, Dr. Donath will help you to decide if a mini facelift can best address your needs.
Local anesthesia with sedation may be used for the mini facelift procedure. Incisions are typically smaller than for a traditional facelift and may be located along the hairline and/or near the ears. Working through the incisions, the facial muscles may be altered and the skin pulled back with the excess removed. While some swelling and bruising can be expected, these side effects are usually less extensive than after a traditional facelift. Most patients are able to return to work and other normal activities within about one week after the mini facelift, though rigorous activities may be prohibited for a period of time.
