Q-What is revision rhinoplasty?
A-Revision rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure performed after a previous rhinoplasty surgery in order to repair functional or aesthetic problems.
Q-Is revision rhinoplasty right for me?
A-If you are looking to improve functional or aesthetic problems of the nose resulting from a prior rhinoplasty surgery and are physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, then revision rhinoplasty may be right fro you. Q-What happens at the consultation for revision rhinoplasty?
A- During the consultation for revision rhinoplasty, Dr. Donath will meet with you to examine your nose, discuss your goals, and take a thorough medical history. He will weigh other factors like age, skin type and attitude toward surgery to help determine if rhinoplasty is right for you. He will explain the technique, the anesthesia, the surgical facility, the risks and the costs associated with the surgery. Any questions or concerns that you may have will also be discussed.
Q-What anesthesia is revision rhinoplasty performed with?
A-Revision rhinoplasty may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia.
Q-How is the surgery for revision rhinoplasty performed?
A-The surgery for revision rhinoplasty will vary depending on the particular problem. Incisions may be made on the inside of the nostrils along with an additional small incision made on the skin between the nostrils. The desired shape may be achieved by repositioning cartilage or replacing missing structures.
Q-How long is the surgical time for revision rhinoplasty?
A-Revision rhinoplasty may take two or more hours to perform.
Q-Where are the revision rhinoplasty incisions located?
A-The incisions for revision rhinoplasty may be located on the inside of the nose and/or on the skin between the nostrils.
Q-Will I have scars after my revision rhinoplasty surgery?
A-Incisions made on the inside of the nostrils leave no visible scarring. While there will be a scar if an incision is made on the skin between the nostrils, it is generally small and well concealed.
Q-Does revision rhinoplasty involve much pain?
A-Patients generally experience less pain after revision rhinoplasty procedures than they do after primary rhinoplasty procedures.
Q-What is the recovery from revision rhinoplasty like?
A-Following revision rhinoplasty, patients usually experience a less extensive recovery than after primary rhinoplasty surgery. Pain, bruising and swelling all seem to be decreased. Most bruising will dissipate within about ten days while the swelling may take several months to fade. Splints and stitches are removed within one week. Rigorous activities and sun exposure will be prohibited for a period of time.
Q-When will I be able to resume work after my revision rhinoplasty surgery?
A-Work and most other normal activities can usually be resumed within about one week after the revision rhinoplasty surgery.
Q-When will the stitches be removed after my revision rhinoplasty procedure?
A-Stitches are usually removed one week after the revision rhinoplasty procedure.
